Welder/Shop Helper

Job Summary
Welder/Shop Helper has the responsibility of assisting in various welding and fabrication projects in a shop setting. Duties include cutting, fitting, tacking, welding, and grinding. Will also be assisting others in the fabrication process. Help maintain a clean and organized shop.

Have some understanding of engineering drawings and welding symbols.

Welder/Shop Helper also inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, cleans, and maintains new and existing equipment and/or systems. It is essential for the Welder/Shop Helper to be able to communicate with other team members and to ensure work is performed safely and efficiently.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • With assistance the ability to position, layout, fit up, cut, and weld material in accordance to shop drawings and directions from supervisor.· Work safely in a shop setting around heavy equipment including ironworkers, press brakes, forklifts, overhead cranes, etc.· Maintain tools as required to perform job.
  • Performing all job duties following company safety rules and proper use of all personal protective equipment.
  • Load and unload equipment and materials.
  • Operate tooling and equipment such as a torch, plasma arc cutter, grinder, pipe bender, etc.

Skills and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred. Any vocational training is strongly desired.· Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.)· Frequent use of basic hand and measurement tools.· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to detect unsafe or hazardous conditions of equipment and work environment.
  • Comprehend a Bill of Material to determine necessary materials and requirements.
  • 6+ months welding experience preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours.· Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks.
  • Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and able to lift up-to 50 or more pounds frequently.
