Composite Layup Technician

Job Summary
This position will assist in the production of bicycle rims, frames and/or small parts in the manufacturing area by laying up composite parts using pre-preg fabric kits.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare parts and perform bonding and finishing of composite fabric, per engineering specifications and standard operating procedures (SOPs). The department’s ability to succeed is dependent upon each team member working fast and efficiently.
  • Fit components into product molds, using hand tools and hard/soft bladders.
  • Assist in the layup of engineering prototypes as well as performing rework as required.
  • Willingness to cross-train within the department, as well as learn other areas to support the Company’s needs.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly work environment.
  • Adhere to all Company policies and procedures.
  • Follow all procedures as they pertain to this position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility/Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This job does not have any supervisory responsibilities. This is a full-time position; days and hours of work are typically Monday through Thursday, 10 hours per day. However, this position may be required to work up to 12 hours per day, Friday’s, Saturday’s, or alternate shifts as job duties demand. Regular onsite attendance is expected and required.

Education and Experience ® = Required (P) = Preferred (Equivalent combinations will be considered)

  • (P) High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • (P) 1+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • (P) Composites training in a manufacturing environment.
  • (P) Ability to use a computer/tablet/keyboard.
  • (P) Ability to use manufacturing computer software (e.g., Quantum) to enter data and update records.
  • (P) Experience using variety of hand tools.

Skills (LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL, REASONING, OTHER)

  • Basic math skills required, with ability to perform precise measurements and calculate areas.
  • Possess excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in the use of raw materials, production/manufacturing processes, quality control, and continuous improvement of manufacturing parts and assemblies.
  • Ability to maintain the pace of work with production.
  • Ability to work with a team to accomplish goals and efficiently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read and comprehend a variety of SOPs and/or routine engineering design drawings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.

Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations ® = Required (P) = Preferred

  • (P) Composite technician certification.

Physical/Visual Requirements

  • Must be able to work in a loud environment with varying temperatures, maintaining close attention to detail.
  • Requires standing for long periods of time; lifting, bending, sliding, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, wiping, and stretching are generally also required to perform the functions of this position.
  • May be required to work with chemicals (e.g., Chemlease, Acetone, IPA, dish soap, etc.).
  • Must be able to lift tools and assemblies weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Safety shoes or toe caps are required to be worn in this position.
