West Coast Code Consultants, Inc. (WC³) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Building Inspector I or Building Inspector in Training to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to begin or advance their career in the building inspection and construction compliance industry. In this role, candidates will perform field inspections on residential and commercial construction projects to ensure compliance with approved plans and building codes. You’ll communicate directly with city building departments, contractors, and the public, and will be supported with ongoing training and professional development to expand your certifications and expertise. It’s expected that International Code Council (ICC) certifications would be obtained fairly quickly, and training would be ongoing.

This position will report to, and receive support from, management based in our Regional Office in Layton, Utah.

Essential Duties:

• Conduct field inspections for all phases of residential and commercial construction.
• Read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and code requirements.
• Document inspection findings using both paper and electronic reporting tools (laptops/tablets).
• Communicate deficiencies and corrective actions with owners, builders, and city personnel.
• Collaborate with permit technicians, other inspectors, and building officials across jurisdictions.
• Be adaptable to the jurisdiction requirements of reporting and communicating.
• Maintain industry licenses and certifications as required. Be able to navigate code books.
• Promote professionalism and goodwill with clients and team members.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements: Work is primarily outdoors in all weather conditions. Must be able to lift, climb, crawl, and navigate active construction sites safely. A valid driver’s license is required.

Requirements:

• Preferred candidates would have 1-3 International Code Council (ICC) certifications and 1-3 years of work or education experience related to basic construction.
• Previous experience in construction inspections is not required but preferred.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Salary:
$45,000-$60,000 / Annually, depends on experience
